Autocycles: the Vehicle of the Future

Before, the idea of the automotive world was to have a wagon big enough to accommodate many passengers, but the availability of alternative materials and metal engineering fabrication were not yet fully developed. So what happened was that they required an extensive power to move the vehicle because of its drag, but today, with the difference in our economy and lifestyle, many manufacturers are rethinking how cars are made.

And yes, we still need those big wagons now-a-days, but the defining need to accommodate a budgetary value of driving fewer passenger seats, cheaper, lighter and tinier engines that are more economical, is drawing more people these days to have them as their workhorse vehicle. Vehicles that can get them there more swiftly because they are tiny; vehicles that without second thoughts will drive you to move around as needed and vehicles with a very low cost maintenance.

Think of a three wheel enclosed compartment with a dashboard and a steering wheel while following the same safety and fuel economy rules as four-wheeled cars are these days in the market. This idea would indeed redefine what an automobile is. What is a big factor in using these type of vehicles is that since they are three wheeled, they are exempt from many state and federal rules dictating safety and emissions standards that apply to cars since they are basically considered a motorcycle.

Talk about hybrid, this vehicle is basically powered with the same fuel but behaves exactly like automobiles not found in electric cars. What makes electric cars composite is because of its engine. In autocycles, the entire structure is composite, making an automobile out of a motorcycle.

It was during world war II when three wheeled vehicles have been created but it did not catch on until the idea of an autocycle. That is, two extended wheels found in front and a single wheel located at the back. These three wheeled autocycles has to also comply with existing vehicle safety regulation applied to passenger cars such as having a steering wheel air bag, curtain side impact air bags, anti-lock brakes, and en electronic stability control.

The biggest dilemma of most autocycle manufacturers is market acceptability even after proving its superior handling characteristics derived from a correctly designed layout. This is unlike the problems of the three wheeler vehicles before that had a tilting problem since the design consist of one wheel in front and two wheel in the back, which are constructed with more stringent and rigid suspensions. Today we have two wheels in front and one the back tilting three -wheeler designs which can lean when turning like what motorcycles do, and this increases inertia resistance that are not found on a four wheel vehicle.
